BIRTH READINESS

The doula team you choose to work with will arrange to go through your prenatal visit(s) in the privacy of your home, and around your schedule. This time is designed to build your relationship with your doulas while you explore your choices in birth together. Your doula team will be available via text and phone throughout your pregnancy. They will then be on-call for your birth for the two weeks before and after your estimated due date.

Your doulas will utilize a wide range of comfort techniques including positional changes, therapeutic touch, calming techniques, and other coping strategies in preparation for your birth. We specialize in teaching partners how best to support you during your birthing process and focus on creating a safe and peaceful space in which to welcome your baby.

BIRTH SUPPORT

Your doula team will work with you to decide at what point you would like one of them to join you in your labor. We will ensure that you have continuous support for up to two hours after the delivery of your baby to help you begin your recovery, and to help establish your initial feeding. We work with your chosen care provider and delivery location to facilitate a peaceful birth environment. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your birth team, supporting you, your partner, your baby, and your medical care providers.

After the arrival of your baby, we will then arrange to visit you for a postpartum appointment in your home. At that time we will talk through your labor, we will make sure you are recovering well, and answer any questions you may have about yourself or your baby.

PLACENTA ENCAPSULATION

Placenta encapsulation is currently offered by Melissa Grable.

Placentophagy, ingestion of placenta, has been practiced for centuries. It is still a common practice in most countries. Different countries have various rituals and beliefs about the amazing placenta.

The placenta is thought to be rich in nutrients that the mother needs to recover more readily from childbirth. Globally, women have been known to eat parts of the placenta to help with lactation. Knowledgeable midwives in this country have their birth mothers take bites of raw placenta to help stop hemorrhaging, due to its beneficial oxytocin content.

The placenta is considered rich in iron and protein, which would be useful to women recovering from childbirth, and a particularly beneficial to vegetarian women. Pregnancy is taxing on the body, even if the mother follows the best of health regimes. The theory behind placentophagy is that you are returning the nutrients lost during the birth process back to the body to aide in quick and smooth postpartum recovery.

The placenta’s hormonal make-up is completely unique to the mother. No prescription, vitamin or herbal supplement can do what one placenta pill can. How amazing is that!?

The benefits of placenta encapsulation include:

  • Decrease in baby blues and postpartum depression
  • Increase and enriched breastmilk
  • Increase in energy
  • Decrease in lochia (postpartum bleeding)
  • Decrease in iron deficiency
  • Decrease insomnia or sleep disorders

Placenta encapsulation services start at $300 for Fresno Birth & Baby doula services clients, and $350 for all others.
